Codes of Conduct

AYR BELLEISLE GOLF CLUB - SAFEGUARDING POLICY FOR CHILDREN AND VULNERABLE ADULTS – March 2024

CODES OF CONDUCT

The following codes of conduct are relevant to any Ayr Belleisle Golf Club officials and volunteers who may work with children and vulnerable adults, and are intended to clarify ;

  • What behaviour is acceptable and unacceptable
  • The standards of conduct expected when working on behalf of the club
  • The basis for challenging and improving our related policies and procedures

ABGC recognises that due to the nature of the sport there may be instances where adults are providing one to one assistance to a child. This could involve, for example, coaching or providing transportation to a competition. In order to safeguard all parties these codes of conduct include at all levels, guidelines where lone working with a child or vulnerable adult may occur.  Members and volunteers must be clear about the expectations on them when involved in such activities with children or vulnerable adults. The parents/carers involved in such activities should also be clear about what they can expect.

Concerns about breaching any of the codes of conduct in any of the following areas should be taken seriously

ABGC Code of Conduct for Parents and Carers

ABGC Code of Conduct for Coaches and Volunteers

ABGC Code of Conduct for Transportation of Children and Vulnerable Adults

ABGC Code of Conduct for Junior Members

ABGC Code of Conduct for Vulnerable Adults

When working with children, the following ratios are recommended in the National Care Standards: Early Education and Childcare up to the Age of 16 (Scottish Executive, 2009). They are a relevant minimum for daytime activities, but may be modified for overnight stays, and / or trips away from home.  No guidelines are available for the ratio of working with vulnerable adults, but it is recommended that prior to commencement of any activities involving vulnerable adults, appropriate risk assessments (including discussing with parent / carer), are carried out to take into account any specific risks relevant to individuals.
